Don't know about network manager and some of the other stuff but for 
kdm I do.. 'apt-get install kdm koffice kde' and when kdm installs 
your are asked which window manager you want to use.  That should 
sort it out.  Took me two months to work that out on my own with 
Sarge.  Also, try 'apt-cache search network' and read your way 
through the stuff that falls down the screen.  Something in there 
might help you ?
