Yes I am fully aware of the Session Manager.

I installed enlightenment last night and that worked fine except I couldn't run E-KDE so I shutdown and left it 'til this morning. Checked by apt-get installing again and it appears kde was not installed. Which might explain why it wasn't appearing in the Session list in the first place.

Much relief to be back in KDE.

Network Manager under Gnome via the nm-applet appears to be reporting the machine to be connected via the link-local address (i.e. connected to itself?) while the default route out from the box consistently fails to be set - despite it's existence in the interfaces file for eth0.

I'll have to look at the debian way of bringing a network up to find out why this is happening.
