You usually find that nmbd doesn't work  Samba uses two daemons - smbd 
and nmbd.  nmbd nearly always has a bug or won't start.  Best to use 
troubleshooting methods after installation to make sure that 
everything is working properly.  Have a read of this for more info...

the above almost always sorts out any difficulties or 
misunderstandings on the part of the new Samba user.
