Well, I googled on
'E: The package * needs to be reinstalled, but I can't find an archive
for it.'
and found some ubuntu material the most relevant of which seemed to be
this https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/8872
which includes suggestions like 'apt-get check' to fix broken things.
There is also apparently an option in synaptic to fix broken packages.
I also looked at
http://www.backports.org/debian/dists/etch-backports/Contents-i386.gz
to see what they had and they do seem to have that kernel image.
Try apt-get check first and see if that repairs the problem.
If not then try removing the image with apt-get remove and then try
installing it again.
Let us know if anything is successful
Regards
L.
