[Sheflug] linux print server on a windows network

Dear All

Can anyone point me in the right direction? We're wanting to setup a linux
print server on a windows network. It's for a school, so there are about
1000 users all accessing it via windows xp, and ideally we'd like to do
things like monitor how much use has been made of the printers by
different users, place limits on how much printing different users can do
etc. As I understand it, setting up a linux box to print is
straightforward and we use samba to make it available to windows clients
on the network. How do we go about tracking users, controlling access
etc.? Can it be done without setting up 1000 accounts on the linux box?
How do we start authenticating users using the windows servers that are
already available? This is something new for me, so any pointers would be
greatly appreciated.

Thanks

David
