[Sheflug] Version of Tomcat in Intrepid Ibex?
Hello the list!
I wonder if anyone who has downloaded and installed Intrepid Ibex can
help me with a Tomcat question? I gather that Tomcat is included in
Intrepid, and that's it's Tomcat 6. Unfortunately I need to know the
actual sub-release; e.g. 6.0.10, 6.0.18, or whatever. I have asked
this on the Ubuntu forums, but the reply I've received essentially
says "it's Tomcat 6....".
The reason behind this is that there was a change to how Tomcat parses
certain Java expressions - apparently (the developers tell me) some
very slightly loose Java coding usage (which ran fine) had been
allowed in Tomcat 4, 5, and 5.5, but was supposed to be fixed in
Tomcat 6. In the event this didn't in fact happen, until Tomcat
6.0.17. In practice the use of the loose coding usage was very common,
and many developers have found that as a result their apps won't run
(or run with errors) in Tomcat 6.0.17 and later (until they amend the
code). This has bitten us, of course, so we are staying on versions of
Tomcat prior to 6.0.17 - on our production servers we have
standardised on 6.0.10. So it would be helpful to know which sub-
release of Tomcat is in Intrepid to help me decide whether to download
that or Heron. (I know that Tomcat isn't in Heron by default, but I
have instructions on how to get specific versions of Tomcat for Heron.)
