Personally for resolution problems I either hack the configuration file 
with Joe or do 'apt-get install kde kdm kubuntu-desktop'.  The KDE 3 
(not 4) control centre will sort out your monitor and X-windows for 
you.

sudo apt-get remove mysql

if that's wrong then ...

sudo apt-cache search mysql
sudo apt-cache show mysql
