[Sheflug] Web development help

Hello,

I'm not very experienced in Web development; my one achievement was a simple
30-page site 10 years ago using Front Page.

Now I have to take over a 37MB site with many more pages than that and
numerous pictures, which was developed and maintained using FP and is
hosted on Easyspace with FP extensions enabled. I no longer have a copy of
FP, and in any case I'd rather not use it - let alone spending money on it
for this one task.

Does anyone here have ideas on converting such a site from FP? I could start
by setting up a local apache server and just uploading the files to it and
seeing what differs from the current on-line version, but that sounds a bit
haphazard - not to mention error-prone, as there seem to be about 240 files
to check.

Also, a decent book on developing a site and configuring apache and mysql
would be useful; not too elementary, but not taking too much knowledge for
granted either. I have ideas about putting pictures, personal descriptions,
event schedules etc. into a database from which to fill the pages at
display time.

Thanks for any help offered.
