[Sheflug] CD booting from virtual drives/partitions
Hi folks
This is actually a question from a friend of mine. Can anyone help please?
Thanks
Diana
---------------------------------------------------------------------
I've bought a new netbook which, as is usual, does not have a built-in
CD/DVD drive. I load up software using an external USB drive. However,
I'm using a Linux boot CD for a function that I'd really like the
portability of the netbook to work with, i.e. without a USB drive
dangling from it (which also need mains power.)
So can I create a virtual drive/partition on the netbook hard disk, and
copy (an ISO image?) from the CD to it? How do I then boot from this
partition? I think Games X-copy might be the tool for the job, but I've
only used this to install games thus far. Is there a better tool to do
what I want to do? Any helpful instructions to get me going?
Thanks in advance.
DP
