Yes, vi sends me nuts and Emacs does the same to me. I use Joe...

to use it type - sudo joe /etc/group.  To save after editing a file 
hold down Ctrl and hit k followed by x.  That saves the file.  For help 
hold down Ctrl and hit k followed by h. sudo apt-get install joe for 
installation.
