I usually try to mention anything of any interest on the list if it's 
in the Phorum.  This seems to be helpful for most people.  I think a 
lot of the traffic could be spambots but I also know that there is some 
genuine interest in the contents of the Phorum.  Some people don't 
like it or find it boring others find it to be interesting and valuable. 
I think this is normal for any media resource that you make available 
for public consumption.  

Installing some more anti-spambot software just now :)  Hopefully it 
will work.
