Start with the volume of the tape recorder at minimum and gradually
increase the volume while recording. If the volume suddenly increases
or goes distorted very quickly, then stop and assume that you're
computer isn't any good for recording line in. You'd have to put an
excessive level of noise through for a fair amount of time for
anything serious to happen.
