[Sheflug] Microsoft's Strategy for Office 2010
Hi
Looks like the 100 millionth download of OpenOffice.org announced last
October at www.openoffice.org and the competition which is provided by
Google Docs is proving to be a good thing.... in that Microsoft now
have to suffer from competition....
" Microsoft now has competition, most notably from old rival Google
with its range of free (for consumers) or cheap (for companies) online
applications. These days "it is very hard to sell an office suite to
consumers", says Sheri McLeish, an analyst with technology consulting
firm Forrester. Most have some version of Office on their computer, she
says, and for everybody else "there is a huge choice of free
alternatives". "The influence of Google" on the consumer market, she
says, "means that Microsoft is not as dominant anymore." "

I stopped using their products on a personal level back in 1999. I
still have to put up with the curse of winduhs hell when I travel to
somewhere without my GNU/Linux netbook but thanks to Wi-Fi this
exposure to some seriously nasty grot is minimised when I do have my
netbook with me.
