We have a vacancy for a C# .NET developer to assist in the development
of GPL-licensed software for the dental market and thought this would
be a good starting point!

What are the main aspects of the role?

An opportunity has arisen for a software engineer proficient in C#
.NET & MySQL and whose development philosophy fundamentally
understands the concepts of open source software. The job will require
you to be able to work within a revision control system with upstream
developers in other time zones as well as interacting with users and
understand their needs based on current proprietary software. This is
a minimum 40 hour per week position. You will be required to
demonstrate progress on a regular basis to management and directors. A
small amount of travel is involved therefore a driving license is
required.

What experience or qualifications do I need?

If you are passionate about open source software and its potential and
want to work in a environment that fosters this, then this is the job
for you.

You must have:

Outstanding C# .NET programming ability using Visual Studio 2008
Working knowledge of MySQL
Comfortable with Linux at command line level

You should have:

Experience with a revision control system (preferably subversion)

You could or we would like you to have:

Experience with Mono and MonoDevelop
OpenGL
Knowledge of the dental software market

What is the company like?

We are a small company, started 5 years ago, and have increasingly
specialised in the supply and maintenance of networks and systems for
dental practices nationwide, which is now the main focus of our
marketing and growth. We have built up a loyal and demanding customer
base of dental practices, which we tightly monitor, maintain and
support as managed networks. Our aim is that Dental IT Limited will be
the preferred national supplier of high end dental IT systems and
support, with a reputation built on integrity, innovation and industry
knowledge. Our customers’ networks are based around HP Proliant
Servers, workstations, and printers, various other scanners and
peripherals, and integrate with dental practice management software,
specialised dental imaging and radiography systems. Our customer
systems are all XP/Vista, Server 2003 and 2008, and Exchange, or SBS.
The networks use managed switches and hardware firewalls. In-house, we
use Nagios and HP SIM monitoring systems, remotely backup our customer
machines using rsync, and provide DNS, mail and web hosting services
for our customers on our own Linux server platform. We also supply and
support VOIP telephony systems based around Asterisk.
