[Sheflug] https, CAs and certificates
Dear All
I've been asked to configure a LAMP application running on an Ubuntu server
to work over https rather than http. It's the first time I've set this up.
I've used a self-signed certificate, and everything's fine except for the
(expected) warnings thrown up by browsers which they'd like to get rid of.
They've had a CA installed in house by another contractor and certificates
signed by this CA are trusted by their browsers. However they don't know how
to use it sign a csr. They have 2 subdomains that are running over https
using certificates signed by this CA. Is it possible for me to use one of
these certificates from a server running one of their other applications as
the certificate on the ubuntu server? The 3 applications (running on
different servers) are all subdomains of the same domain (
folders.mydomain.co.uk, mail.mydomain.co.uk, moodle.mydomain.co.uk).
I've a horrible feeling this question demonstrates some profound
misunderstanding of certificates and CAs but any advice would be gratefully
received
Thanks
David
