It's the theme that you are using.   Install another one and try that.  
I get the same problem when I try and use Suffusion on my own box....

 I get the same problem with my box.  Take a look at DNS settings and 
also in /etc/resolv.conf.  Both of these tend to be set the wrong way 
after installation on Ubuntu Server.  Mine was.  I had to change some 
things.  resolv.conf should contain the DNS servers for your ISP.  
Such as ....

search zen.co.uk
nameserver 212.23.3.100
nameserver 212.23.6.100

Or, whatever your ISP uses.  You did set UFW to allow udp on port 53 ?

You can change this inside the Wordpress admin GUI.  Click on 
settings.
