[Sheflug] British Gas
Hi
This is probably what most people would call a rant but it is
GNU/Linux related. I've just received two USB devices in the post
from British Gas. Plug them into your desktop or whatever and top up
your prepay gas or electricity. Easy way to do things. You know
what's happening with your bills in the winter period.
Right. So, plugged it in. Followed the British Gas instructions to
top up the prepay cards so that I can top up the meter. Not too hard
is it ? No, it's not. Except when I used Google Chrome or Firefox to
connect to the British Gas site the following came up on the screen...
"Sorry, system not supported

Uhhmm... am I imagining things or are British Gas still hanging around
back in 1995 ? Using the home or mobile GNU/Linux desktop I can go
anywhere in the world and connect to anything. Even my own bank works
with a GNU/Linux desktop. Have BG ever heard of the any browser
campaign ? Looks like they haven't. Hopefully someone will get them
out of the 20th century eventually. Although, knowing what BG are
like it's probably unlikely.
Okay. So, install Wine now and internet exploder afterwards. See if
that works.
