Great lecture. Reminds me in some ways of the atmosphere at
www.fosdem.org. I walked in through the door in 1995 at the
Universite Libre Bruxelles and three of the heftiest looking male
academics I've ever seen descended on me. One of then said "Vee haf
tu haf oopern soource !". Can't argue with that kind of thing :)
They took me upstairs and gave me some coffee. Told me they wanted to
have an open source event. I said I was in touch with Richard Stallman
who could pull a crowd. I would help them out. That was how Osdem
started and which eventually became Fosdem. We all thought we were
raving nutters or eccentric at best. We thought we might get a few
old blokes on crutches interested. Present figures for Fosdem are
about 5000 or 10 000 people in one weekend.

Obviously this is also imaginary - http://youtu.be/o774LMtfeJY
<shakes head> How anyone could think that a real project I've no idea.
As Ted Tso said to us in his lecture at SHU back in 2001.. It's been a
great ten years......
