[Sheflug] Jitsi
Hi
The thought occurred to me that someone out there might not know much
about Jitsi which is the video conferencing suite that ShefLUG and
ManLUG used for two years during the pandemic to run our meetings. It
was a bit wobbly at times but it was better than no meetings at all.
Since that time Jitsi has come along further. I have used Cisco Webex
myself which I think is very good but there was a review of Jitsi in New
York where it came second to Webex...
From Wikipedia....

" Reception and Usage
In an April 2020 test of video conferencing services, US product review
owned by the New York Times Wirecutter recommended Jitsi Meet as one of
its two picks (after the more feature-rich Cisco Webex which it found
preferable for large groups and enterprises), stating that Jitsi was
"easy to use and reliable" and that "in our testing, the video quality
and audio quality were both great — noticeably sharper and crisper than
on Zoom or Webex".[57]
During the COVID-19 pandemic in April 2020, 8x8 reported 10.4 million
active users globally per month.[58] Several organizations and
universities have set up their own Jitsi based video conferencing
services, among them fairkom with fairmeeting, hosted on a scalable
kubernetes cluster in the EU[59] or Goethe University Frankfurt.[60]
The non-profit-organization Digitalcourage discourages in 2023 the usage
of the free meet.jit.si service, as it is not free of tracking, requires
authentication at either Google, GitHub, or Facebook and is hosted at
AWS which is not considered GDPR-compliant.[61][62][63] "
