Several programs on Red Hat 6.0 may not stop running when a user logs
out due to a problem handling signals. The affected programs are
xterm, rxvt, and screen. The cause of the problem is actually in an
auxiliary package called utempter that helps to keep track of which
users are currently logged in. The cause of the problem was that the
signal SIGCHLD that is delivered when a program completes was not
ignore, resulting in the wrong signal handler reaping the child
status. A more complete description of the failure symptoms may be
found at http://developer.redhat.com/bugzilla under bug #2767.

Users of Red Hat Linux 6.x should upgrade to a new version of
utempter in order to fix this problem.
