libc5 / libc6 (glibc), using both on RedHat 5.2

What experience has everyone had with libc* compatibility? I have a feeling
that my RH5.2 system is libc5 only, though I wouldn't swear to it, and I'm
looking into support for libc6. What gives? I'd really like to hear from
anyone who is running and compiling against both.

Also, *.so files are shared libraries, yes? Libc is the C standard library
(how am I doing? :) Is there a separate statically linked library or can
the linker statically link against a *.so? (for example, wintel statically
links to *.lib and dynamically to *.dll)

Also also, does all of the above apply to libm* aswell (I'm assuming there
is one, but there should be.)

One more thing, does anyone know what the functional differences between 5
and 6 are?
