Your RH5.2 system is already running both. RH5 upwards runs on glibc
primarily, and there is some libc5 compatability stuff built in. A lot of
it is just symlinks pointing to different files; nothing major. You'll
find that you can upgrade to 2.2.x immediately.

*.a is the static image.

It applies to all libraries - note that they don't all come in both shades
though.
