Hi Richard,
Donīt start in runlevel 2 at the first place. ;-)
To do this -it can be done at the lilo prompt at startup- enter linux
1 (or whatever your kernel/config is named). This will start runlevel
1. You can boot into single user mode as well, linux S should do it. I
hope the syntax is correct, itīs something very close to this. ;-)
