Dear sheflug,
Just when I was about ready to show Win98 the nasty side of fdisk, my
wallet goes out and buys one of these things....
http://www.soundblaster.com/pc-dvd/encore-6x/
(it all happened while I was asleep you understand) So now I've resigned
myself to being BSOD worshipper for at least another few months.
The device functions perfectly under Linux (2.2.5) as a 24X CD Rom drive.
If I insert a DVD, Linux mounts it up and I can see the movie files. This
leads me to two questions:
The DVD Rom was some 4Gb in size. This mounted fine but what is
the maximum size for a Linux partition ?
Are there any software players for DVD files ? Doing 'file <blah>'
on them reports them as MPEG encoded data files so I remain
hopeful that one day I'll be able to use this as a DVD player under
Linux.
Any pointers to Linux/DVD resources would also be very much appreciated.
Best regards from sunny California to sunny Sheffield !
Cheers,
Andy.
