help again

Dear All,
I've got problems again, can you help or point me to the right
place?
I'm running Suse 6.1 with KDE, I've got Netscape and Star office both of
which work when I'm logged in as root. But Knowing my inability with
computers, I've created myself as a user, so I can't do the damage I
could in root..But this is my problem I Can't get Netscape or Star
office to work. I've tried copying the links form the root desktop. and
copying star office to my home directory, but they simple won't work,
I've tried changing permissions ,but know joy there.
can any one help Please???
