Yup,
Your / partition must finish below cylinder 1024.
But you're then free to have any other parition to be anysize (yeah
alright - almost 'any' size) you desire.
I've got various machines configured in different ways - as I
progressed in learning what to put, where.
Previously I had just one / partition and one /home, which I found
out the hard way was not the way to go.
I now setup / /usr /var /tmp /home as their own partitions.
/var (and below i.e /var/log) can get quite full, rather quickly, but
it really depends on what you're doing.
I seem to recall that Applix installs itself in a funny place (or so
I thought), I 'think' it's /opt, so you may want to give this it's
own partition.
