Re: UDMA 66
Hello.
To boldly go, or is it to go boldly ? Sorry, I digress.
I am a newbie, and have just installed RH 6.1 fairly successfully after a
few attempts. The problem was that I have a 13.6gb HD that I partitioned:
6.5gb for, yes, Windows and split the rest into 2 equal logical drives. I
was wanting one as a spare partition and the other for Linux.
Then the problems started.
I knew that I could delete one of the the logical partitions with disk druid
so I could use it for Linux. Under disk druid I had; hda1,hda5 and hda6. So
I deleted hda6 for Linux. No!!! Boot sector too large, just won't have it
and it can't create partitions for Linux. Then I read about the 1023 or 4
cylinder thingy.
To cut it short I ended up partitioning the same but this time deleted hda5.
Hda6 then became hda5 and Bingo, now up and running except for the sound
card. The only problems seem to be that under Windows, Norton Disk Dr
reports that I have invalid partition data. So far I have just ignored it an
all is O.K.(where is that bloody piece of wood)!!!
Have I discovered something or is there more chance of Viv being Mayor. I've
even configured the modem, but couldn't get it up and running till I changed
the flow control to xon/xoff. Kept coming up as modem is busy. It then
detected the modem. Odd.
Expect more about the soundcard and that isapnp.conf file. Un rem WHAT!!!
Have you seen it???
Bernard.
