Let's face it, all sndconfig does is try to initialise the sound modules - ok
if it works, a pain when it doesn't. I still like SuSE's OSS module-based
config, feed the kernel config the parameters of your soundcard you're away.
Of course, with SuSE you also get the old OSS (ISA-only) commercial product,
which is a godsend if you have an older soundcard. Just type soundon or put
in an init script it's going.
