I have to say, having played with the RH6.1 machine at demo day (more on
this later!) I am still deeply unimpressed .. I don't like knocking
distros, but it does seem like a lot of people have trouble with RH6..

There is absolutely no reason why your card should not work! (Typical
tech support answer!). I don't know whether or not you mentioned this
before, but are you using the correct X server? There's SVGA, which would
work with your card, but also S3 S3V (I think). It might be worth trying
a different server: this may be affecting what modes are open to you.
Alternatively, try downloading a newer X server from either ftp.redhat.com
or www.xfree.org, an RPM from Redhat would probably be easiest. That's
about the only other thing I can think of at the moment, I'm afraid.

It's possible that you didn't install it - I would think it odd that RH6.1
would come without XF86Setup. In any case, you can always download that
too if you want to try it:
it should be XFree86-XF86Setup-3.3.5-3.i386.rpm.
Then just rpm -Uvh it.
Quick word about demo day: I went on Saturday, and it was great seeing
people other than Sheflug PCshop there - well done to SuSE Trantec who
were there the day I went, and to anyone else I didn't get to see earlier
in the week. Nice seeing proactive companies out there demonstrating their
product, even if the weather was atrocious (took me about 45mins to get
from Dronfield to Sheffield, nice thick layer of slush on the roads, awful
wind, etc.) Anyway, it was nice to meet everyone again, see how people
were doing etc. Great meeting new people as well: Ruediger's appalling
attempt at bribery corruption (t-shirt + mug ;) worked a treat, I'm
putting SuSE 6.2 on one of my new workstations this week rather than the
intended Mandrake!. 6.3 was also looking very impressive, and someone was
even waving a bought boxed-set around: I believe PCWorld had got them in
just that morning? Thanks also to Blackwell's for hosting again; roll on
the next demo days!!
Cheers all,
Alex.
