RH6.1 ppp TX/RX errors

Hey folks.

I`m using RedHat 6.1 and I`m trying to use freenet (www.freenet.co.uk)as my
ISP.
I`ve got no problems with this connection under Windoze, however under Linux
I`m loosing around 1/4 to 1/3 of all packets with/because of errors.

I`ve tried dropping the MTU from 1500 to 596, but it doesn`t really help.

My browser (NS4.7) can find sites OK, however the transfer speed drops from
1.5K/s to 0 in a short time once connection to a site is made.

Richard here at Sheflug suggests I need to tell my Linux system to break
down data packets that it transfers to and from my machine to the internet.

But he can`t remember how..
