Qmail Serial mail

Does anyone have any instructions for setting up qmail 1.03 serialmail
other than the qmail how to.

I think I have followed it, but it fails to authorize on the smtp port at my
ISP. The outbound mail is put into the pppdir correctly and when told to
send the mail out it failes and bounces it back to me as a permenant error.

qmail itself appear to be working fine.
