Books and Printers and PPP
Is Linux complete a good reference book for a semi-newbie? By that I
mean not alien at all to PC's and such, but not too hot on some of the
Linux specifics. How technical does it get, for instance? (the more the
better). Its just that I'm trying to find a book which can be a sort of
'dip in when I need it' type book, rather like online documentation. I
don't know about you lot, but I still find printing the stuff makes it
SO much easier to read!!
Also, anyone know how to make an Epson stylus 640 do higher than 360x360
in 'hatch-o-vision'. Something more akin to Windoze style output would
be nice. Managed it once with the 600 driver, but then it died and
needed replacing.
Finally, I recently re-compiled my kernel (2.2.13) to include modules
for the soundcard. Now, PPP connections seem a little flakey, and liable
to drop off suddenly. Also, I get a message in the console log:
insmod: cannot locate module char-major-108
Anyone know what this is? char-major-107 is the 3dfx, and char-major-109
is the LVM, but no mention of what char-major-108 is, so I don't know
what it wants!!! I'm using kPPP by the way. sorry :-(
Cheers then,
Craig
