Not sure. To be honest, if you're after something that will work for you
at all levels, it has to be Running Linux...

What died? The printer? or Driver?

Heh, you've almost solved the problem yourself. char-major-108 is ppp
related. What have you got in your conf.modules? (or modules.conf,
depending on your version of modutils ;) You should see something like
'alias char-major-108 ppp-generic'...
