I used (almost) deliberately. Most Linux hobbyists/students (and most
sysadmins for that matter) will never use more than a handful of the 64
logical partitions available, and so I stand by my original statement. Yes,
the limit is finite but almost inconsequential.

You've been counting in binary for too long; 63 total partitions isn't
unlimited, and that means you have to use *IDE drives. On SCSI you
can only have 15. It's not that hard to overrun these numbers in some
applications.
