Kernel config ppp

can anyone help with this.

i recompiled my kernel to provide APM and strip out things like SCSI and
ISDN, stuff that i don't use. i used the origonal kernel config(suse6.3)
as a starting point.

the kernel compiled and runs ok but there were a few strange choices
already in the config file. PPP, SLIP, SOUND and other options were not
selected to be a part of or a module for the kernel. They all work ok
and are listed in modules.conf as being modules?

i presume that the PPP/ SLIP services are being provided by some other
software. i'm low on disk space due to having to use star office. i'm
searching for packages to delete (or a smaller office package)

can anyone shed any light on this?
