I didn't know ed did sorts. Isn't that unnecessary bloat, the kind
you'd expect from, um, emacsen?

Well, real men actually use `cat | sed &', and speak with start and stop
bits. But I digress.

One thing about GNU systems, `/usr/lib/sendmail user [at] domain <<EOTEXT'
is actually a quite usable MUA (a one-line screen editor ;-) as long
as you're using a shell with readline capability. :-) But that's
really retro, ed users wouldn't know about it. They don't make typing
mistakes on the command line, and know all the bang history shortcuts.

That's interesting. Why, do you think? The Debian GNU/Linux
dependency system is, uh, "baroque" and a graph of infinite
connectivity and not even acyclic :-(. But I don't see any way to fix
it and keep its strengths. Cathedral vs. bazaar, as already suggested?

Then again, all the FreeBSDers I know use it as a desktop OS ;-)
Linux is sorta the Unix for people who'd rather be watch telly....

Which is a big strength, of course, because you _can_ use Linux for
industrial applications as easily as you can use it as a platform for
avoiding paying royalties to Mr. Jagger....
