Good point, a lot of people just want a system - doesn't matter if it
is ineffieceint, bulky, slow. As long as it works out of the box with
software that is very easy to use (minus the paper clip that you can
never get rid of) cheap (in comparion to Macs), and requires least
amount of brain power, due to Microsoft inhaling Apples smoke of
"You don't want to know, don't need to know, and we are never
going to tell you either, it will all be done for you" This approach
wins hands down, with Linux you need to learn when goes on
under the bonnet, where as like my dad, he just needs to learn how
to use the mouse, keyboard and Word 6, never mind complex
programs, setup tools, maintenace, etc. To him, it works on
minimal brain power, and if he gets stuck, there is a large help
facility.
I offer two alternatives to people, one, if you don't want to learn
anything and you just want to just switch on and go, ignore the
speed of the machine, lack of security, breakdowns, etc, then
Windows is the answer, whereas if you want effeicency, power,
high security and stability then Linux is the answer. The choice is
theirs.
