I don't think it is MS, I think actually it's games developers if anyone: 
System Shock 2 (probably the greatest game money can buy), needs a PII 300 and
a decent graphics card, and that's about six months old.  But because there are
so many people out there who want to run such software, they will put PC's
together so they can run Unreal Tournament, Quake 3 etc.  I know windows is a
bloatfest, but the kit needed to run Quake 3 on Linux is the same as that as
windows. Well, except you HAVE to own a Voodoo card with Linux's Quake 3 and
Unreal Tournament.
