Easy, this one. head off to the Linux Documentation Project ( I forget the
URL, but someone must know. I just search!) and download 'The not-so-short
guide to latex (or latex in 87 minutes)' and 'The essential guide to
LaTeX' and you won't go far wrong,

I printed them both and stuck 'em in a ring binder. Excellent reference
work!
