hi everybody*
I've got LinuxPPC 2000 on a PM8500, and although I'm a bit of a
newbie to linux, I'll try...
installation:
is easy (pop in CD, run installer to put ramdisk.image.gz in your
System Folder, use BootX to boot into linux and X based installer,
choose rpm's and set time, password etc.)
HelixCode GNOME comes as default.
oddities so far:
controlfb doesn't recognise all VRAM when booting with BootX, so use
OF (via BootVars) booting instead,
Xconfigurator fails,
macos pdisk can't read the partition table (it would in LPPC1999).
having just received my CD I see there's a new 140MB image at
linuxppc.com that they say corrects some 'issues' ....
Not done any serious work with it yet, so can't vouch for stability,
but hasn't hung yet :-)
