access internet workshop

On thursday nightI went to the opening of the Access Creative
Internet Workshop, (1, Sidney St., up the road from the
Showroom - http://access.lowtech.org ) They have a network of a
dozen or so 486s, running RH6.1 & KDE 1.1.2. (yes, that's right)

They're charging users 23 quid a month for unlimited access, but
the idea is to operate a system whereby users gain credits which
are set against the fee. Just how this will work I'm not sure,
but I donated a couple of spare AMD K5 cpus & received an
'alt-cash' credit voucher that entitled me to a 12.5%
discount. Which is nice.

They gave me a tour of the extensive basement area, where I was
astonished to see a motherlode PC boxes of every description,
monitors & assorted peripherals piled up to the ceiling. All
this bonfire needs, I gathered, is the spark of a notion about
what to do with it. Anyone with any ideas involving open source
software would be made most welcome.

They're open from 11am weekdays.
