I think that the AX25 protocol within the kernel takes care of
that. I have seen people using NOS and stuff like that from MSDos in the
past. A quick browse through /usr/doc/HOWTO/en-txt/AX25-HOWTO.gz reveals
a whole section dedicated to it. I haven't read it, though. However,
think of it this way: the TNC is just a network device that carries AX25
packets. As far as the kernel can translate the tcp/ip queries it gets
to the AX25 stuff the tnc wants, you're in business. So, I suppose that
once the AX25 links is up and running, it's just a matter of using
ifconfig and route to get things going.
If you get it to work, I think it'd be something great to show
people in the next ShefLUG meeting!
