Re: ip in ax25
ok jose
i am able to run straight tcp/ip over radio but there is this new ???thing
going on were u run ip inside the ax25 packet getting rid of the need to run
an ip address
basicaly what i gather is when u use ipax25 u have a unique number made up
from your call and some other num so there is no need for an ip plus not
many people run normal tcp/ip because of routing problems.first full stop
!.not everyone is like us and like's to experiment let alone look at linux
hihihihi.
The windows software that does this is call UI_VIEW which can not locate for
linux. In the ax25 how to there is a reference to ipax25 but followed this
and the daemon says there is a problem with parameters so dont know what is
going off there.may be will down load newer ax25 howto i will look for it
soon
Your's Russ

I think that the AX25 protocol within the kernel takes care of
that. I have seen people using NOS and stuff like that from MSDos in the
past. A quick browse through /usr/doc/HOWTO/en-txt/AX25-HOWTO.gz reveals
a whole section dedicated to it. I haven't read it, though. However,
think of it this way: the TNC is just a network device that carries AX25
packets. As far as the kernel can translate the tcp/ip queries it gets
to the AX25 stuff the tnc wants, you're in business. So, I suppose that
once the AX25 links is up and running, it's just a matter of using
ifconfig and route to get things going.
If you get it to work, I think it'd be something great to show
people in the next ShefLUG meeting!
Regards,
José
