Yes and no :-) I am running one here (right now), and it works
fine. Be careful with the memory and the power supply+fan combination:
they both need to be big and good :=) Oh, and you need a distro based on
a kernel > 2.2.13 IIRC (most of them, nowadays).
Performance is good, specially if you use stuff optimised and
compiled for K7 (ATLAS flies!), but compiler specific optimisation isn't
in gcc as of yet, at least last time I checked. It would probably make
software run 0.001 % faster, but there you go, some people don't seem to
have enough :)
