Sorry Richard it is not drivel. You are beginning to sound like
someone from Micro$oft - god forbid :-) 

Linux is being used for community development, and third world development
schemes precisely because it runs so well on old hardware, when those
Micro$oft OSes and apps won't. It also runs on the latest hardware pretty
damn good too - it is possible to do both. You should hear Linus on the
subject - check the kernel list when someone recommends dropping 386
support!

The chances are that in the future web "appliances" will actually be less
powerful than todays PC's - to make them cheap, and use less power, and
have you seen the lack of definition on a Web TV? 640x480 is hardly
possible. While many might argue that the web TV and appliance users won't
be interested in Linux, they maybe, and we need to reach everyone who
wants to see the alternative that the GNU, Linux, BSD etc world offers.
