[Sheflug] Can't get permission

Hello all.

I have installed SuSE 6.4 and can't get permission to do anything.

If I try to set up a printer in Star Office, I get "Permission Denied". The
same happens when I try to install Word Perfect, or if I try to access doc
and other files. In fact, there is very little I seem to be able to do. I
didn't have this problem with 6.3 and am at a loss what to do about it. I
log in as ROOT and that should give me access to everything, according to
the manual. I have also tried it when logging in as myself as a user. Same
thing happens.

Going to YAST-Configuration File-Permissions doesn't seem to do anything,
and from what the manual says, using CHMOD only alters permission for one
particular file. What I need is to do something which will enable to access
everything, as I thought I should. I have tried logging in as ROOT both in
graphics and text modes.

I must be doing something which I shouldn't, or not doing something I
should. I have studied the manual, but can get no help on this.

Help, please, I'm stuck!

Sorry it's such a basic problem.

Many thanks

Keith
