I don't know about that ;) The problem was, you couldn't put it into
graphical mode - text mode worked fine.

Theres no need to go that far!! make menuconfig will show you exactly
what's in and what's out.

Was the mouse working on the Debian box beforehand? I thought that it had
just been installed, but was unconfigured, and I don't remember seeing
graphical mode boot up or gpm working. It's probably just a case of
configuration, not reinstallation ;)
