You are members of the same workgroup/domain I suppose? Who's the browse 
master on your network ? Can you do, for instance, "net use
X: \\server\share" and then see the X: in My Computer/Explorer?

And remember that any shares suffixed with $ (eg, D$) are non-browseable
but still connectable.

NT (LanMan) sharing is as bog as standard comes in networking - it's a
sure sign that either your basic network setup is, well, crap, or your
security setup is not working.
