I don't know if this is of any interest to Andrew.

I am with Screaming.net, which gives free evening and week-end access, but
it is an 0845 number. 10% off all phone calls (except mobiles). There's no
charge for this, except for the standard BT line rental of £27.77 a quarter.
They do another service which gives 24/7 access but this costs £14.99 a
month, including the line rental.

I have no idea about the authentication it uses.

The problem with WorldOnline/Screaming is that the e-mail server is rather
duff. When you can eventually get past Digital Doris ("This is a BT
announcement. The telephone network.....") it sometimes decides that it is
not accepting your password for the next half hour or so. Or it sticks on
"authorizing". Apart from that, download speeds are usually good.

I haven't yet tried it with Linux, Sendmail, or Netscape, though.

As other subscribers have said, Screaming is a good name for it, as that is
the effect it has on its users!
