[Sheflug] blind.ppp script
hi,
i've recently changed my distro to mandrake and it's prety impressive (from an
install point of view)
i had been running diald under suse6.3 with no probs but ran into trouble with
mandrake though :-(
i installed diald as before but broke the pppd deamon whilst running the script
supplied in the diald-how-to !
the script is as follows:-
#!/bin/sh
#
DEVICE=ttyS1
(
stty 57600 -tostop
pppd -detach debug noipdefault defaultroute mru 1500 /dev/$DEVICE &
exit 0
) < /dev/$DEVICE > /dev/$DEVICE
it kind of looks like it's making a loopback device on the modem but i'm not
sure... i don't want to run it agian until i know what it's doing.
the how to says to run minicom and login, suspend minicom and run this script.
under suse it ran fine. under mandrake it complained about not having a
password for authentication. once i used this script however, i was unable to
make any sort of dial-up connection without this error appearing?
i was pleased with diald under linux and want to run it again under mandrake.
can anyone tell me what it's doing and what it might have broke?
i probobly did something wrong prior to running the script (finger must of
slipped or something:-) but i've no idea where to go from here.
